Flute Concerto Performance at the University of Washington

Biography

Megan Hutchison is a performing flutist and flute teacher in the Seattle area. Megan maintains a flute studio at Music Works Northwest in Bellevue, and coaches weekly flute classes across Seattle through the Michael J. Owen Music Education Fund.

Megan is a recent graduate of the University of Washington, where she completed her Master of Music degree in Flute Performance, studying with Donna Shin. During her time there, she was the teaching assistant for the University of Washington’s Modern Music Ensemble and flute performance classes. She performed as principal flutist in the University of Washington Symphony Orchestra and University of Washington Wind Ensemble.

Recognized for her solo performances, she has won prizes at the Montana, Florida, and Austin (TX) Flute Association’s Young Artist Competitions. Megan also won the University of Washington’s Concerto Competition, performing Carl Nielsen’s Flute Concerto with the UW Symphony Orchestra. She was also a featured performer at the 2020 National Flute Association Convention, the 2020 Texas Music Educator’s Association Convention, and the 2022 and 2023 Latino Chamber Music Festival in Seattle.

Particularly passionate about chamber music, Megan is the flutist for the Seattle based wind quintet Viridian Winds, who made their debut at Orquesta Northwest's 2023 Latino Chamber Music Festival. Megan also serves as the treasurer and chamber coach for the nonprofit chamber music organization, Collaborative Musicians’ Project.

Megan received her Bachelor of Music in Flute Performance at the University of North Texas where she studied with Terri Sundberg and Dr. James Scott. In her free time, Megan enjoys hiking, baking Swiss roll cakes, and spending time with her two cats, Britt and Tiger.
